D.P. Chapman & Sons Becomes PavCon Group
We are pleased to announce that effective immediately, D.P. Chapman & Sons has become part of the Conmat Group of companies and will operate as PavCon Group, LLC.
The involvement by the members of the Chapman family that you've become accustomed to dealing with over the years will not change, nor will our commitment to honest business practices and quality work. All existing contracts, quotes, and commitments will be honored and we welcome your invitation to quote projects of any size.
It is our expectation that our new relationship will allow us to expand our business and to offer additional services to our customers. We will be in a position to perform larger and more complex projects than we have typically quoted. Additionally, it is our intention to begin quoting and performing concrete parking lots, roadways, and driveways in addition to the asphalt and aggregate placement that we have always performed. This is an exciting change that will be beneficial to all of our existing customers, suppliers, and subcontractors.

Job Opening With Conmat Group:
Estimator - Rockingham Steel
Rockingham Steel, Inc., a division of Conmat Group, is a full-service fabricator of reinforcing steel (rebar) and supplier of related components, and we are seeking a full-time entry-level Estimator for our Tidewater operation (Chesapeake office).
We have an immediate need for a hard working, career-oriented individual that can be trained to read and analyze construction plans, comprehensively estimate materials, and prepare bid documents for pricing. This person will also maintain an automated log of project opportunities by researching third-party bid boards and corporate websites.
Hours are 7am to 5pm with much of the time spent in the office, but individual will support fabrication and delivery, as needed.
While this is an entry-level position, desired knowledge, skills and abilities include:
Strong math and analytical skills
Attention to detail
Ability to read and understand construction documents, including architectural plans
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to coordinate effectively with team members, vendors and customers
Strong office technology skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word
Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines
Familiarity with sending, receiving and attaching large drawing files using e-mail or file transfer programs helpful
Knowledge of building construction, materials and methods helpful
Construction estimating experience helpful
Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved is desired
This is a full-time, hourly position with benefits. Starting hourly pay rate is negotiable.
